HR Green Internship!

A calendar concept I've been working on for the 2015 calendar (Don't know why I have 2014 on there currently...)

Okay! So summertime is here. Meaning I actually have time to maintain this blog a little bit more, because right now there's not much to it.

Today, I'd love to share my experience after a week of interning at HR Green.

Last summer I had an internship at a small fashion blog in downtown Chicago. There were maybe 7 of us working there.

This summer I've landed an internship at a medium sized engineering firm. There are 6 different business lines here, and they have offices spread throughout the country.

I think the differences between these two things have been extreme. Going from a pretty fast paced, highly creative and small environment to a slower paced, larger environment, where I am one of 2 graphic designers here. There is one full time graphic designer, and then me.

It's really interesting to work as a graphic designer in a corporate environment. There is a brand to maintain and a style guide to follow. So I've been struggling with maintaining the brand, making engineer people happy, and still being creative.

So! I've set some goals for myself, and I think other graphic designers can use some of these if they are ever in a similar position as me:

-Introducing fresh design elements through typography, photography, and infographics.
-Gaining an understanding of how to present ideas and materials in a professional setting.
-Understanding the goal of a design through a marketing lens.
-Learning the boundaries of a brand.

-Working on projects that allow innovation and creativity
-Getting a chance to work with photography
-Stretching my skills as much as possible by working on a variety of projects. (Digital & Print)
-Networking as much as possible.
-Understanding what other do here and getting a chance to meet with them
-Coming out with a versatile portfolio

Somewhat of a long list, and some are a little silly sounding, but hey. Gotta have goals.

We will see where they take me as the summer progresses.
